On the first day of school, Principal Dr. Doris Henderson greeted her by name. That connection changed everything for Whitney. “I was about to turn five, and I was like, ‘This woman is amazing,’” she says. “I knew from the first day of Kindergarten I was going to be a teacher.” Whitney’s love of helping students reach their full potential has continued throughout her career leading as a teacher, principal and now superintendent of Guilford County Schools. Whitney knows the importance of being the district’s first superintendent, who was also a student in the system. “I take that very seriously because it’s my home, it’s my community, and I would never be in this place without the community that I grew up in. That’s monumentally important to me.” With Whitney’s insight and vision for the future, she is ready to lead our students and schools to extraordinary things.
